Tips
- - Moderately active children should consume the following number of calories per day, as recommended by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute:
- Girls/boys, 2-3: 1,000-1,400
- Girls/boys, 4-8: 1,400-1,600
- Girls, 9-13: 1,600-2,000
- Boys, 9-13: 1,800-2,200
- - Try not to skip meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all important!
- - Eating breakfast gets your morning started right! For healthy options, try a fruit smoothie, trail mix or whole-grain pancakes.
- - Sometimes a kid just needs a snack! A piece of fruit is easy and tasty. Grab a handful of nuts, or spread some peanut butter over a piece of celery.
- - It’s important to eat from all 5 food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins (meats and beans) and dairy. Are you doing this every day? Use the ChooseMyPlate picture to help you make the right choices!
- - Get involved with what you eat! Go with your parents to the grocery store and help them pick out foods from all the food groups. Ask them if you can help put meals together, too!

Where to Exercise
Your health isn’t just about eating the right foods. You have to get out and move, too! Do you have a favorite exercise, like riding your bicycle or playing soccer?
You may be able to stay active within your own neighborhood, if you have a safe area for biking, walking or running. Or maybe your own yard works well for some activities, such as a game of tag, basketball or even swimming if you have a pool.
If you are looking for other places you can exercise, try going to your school or one of the local parks. Listed below are some of the parks and other play areas near our restaurants. If you live somewhere else, ask your parents to help you locate some of the parks close to your home!
